Meet the Board: Jaclyn Morimune

This is the latest post in our “Meet the Board” series. Each Monday, we’ll feature one of our 2017-18 board members, not stopping until we run out of board members (in late January).

Jaclyn Morimune, DTR
Secretary

Since moving to Washington from the Bay Area in California back in 2008, I have loved living in Seattle and experiencing all that the Greater Northwest has to offer! Some of my favorite things to do include cooking, salsa dancing and playing beach volleyball with my friends. Currently I work at Harborview Medical Center where I receive new inspiration from my clients and co-workers everyday. Additionally I work at Fred Hutch in the Human Nutrition Lab where I get to be at the front lines of nutrition research. It fascinates me how powerful the influence food and nutrition has on our population’s health. I find that no matter where you are in life there is always an opportunity to learn something new or see things with fresh perspective! In my second year as secretary for the GSDA I am excited to continue taking part in inspirational change within the field of nutrition as we build a healthier community together!

Favorite food: The two foods that I eat most consistently are bananas with peanut butter. It’s literally the first thing I eat every morning, and I doubt that will ever change! As a self-proclaimed foodie, I’ve eaten some pretty delicious meals, yet sometimes the simplest foods are the ones that we find ourselves going back to time and again.

Favorite physical activity: This summer I have enjoyed kayaking! One of my favorite places to go is Lake Union. It gives me a place to relax, wind down and enjoy some beautiful sunshine!

Favorite travel destination: Lake Tahoe! I visit every year with my family. I love spending winters on the slopes skiing and snowboarding or hiking and wakeboarding during the summers. The best part about Tahoe is getting to spent time with my family. It’s such a comforting place to get away!

Favorite food city: One of my favorite food cities is Portland, OR. I love their collection of street food vendors, sustainable restaurants, and hip coffee shops. You can always finding something new and delicious to taste!

Favorite hobby: Whenever I have time you’ll often find me in the great outdoors! I especially enjoy backpacking and trail jogging. Recently I went mountain biking to Goldmyer Hot Springs. It was delightful to experience a nice warm soak in the mountains!

Something most people don’t know about me: Not many people know I use to work as a lifeguard at a water park back in California. It was a perfect job for someone who enjoys the water as much as I do! One of the many rewarding aspects of lifeguarding was performing water rescues. I guess you could say if I were a candy I would be a Lifesaver. (I’m also really bad at jokes, but you knew this already …)
