Faculty

 

Mary Jones, MS, RD, CD:

Mary is a nutritionist for Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center and an active member of the Children’s Obesity Action Team (COAT).   She oversees the recruitment, referral and curriculum revision of the Strong Kids Strong Teens Program with YMCA of Greater Seattle, a program for overweight in children, adolescents and their families. She is currently an RD for Hematology/Oncology services and has experience in the field of bariatric surgery counseling. Mary completed her dietetic internship at Bastyr University where she also received her Master of Science degree, emphasis on research. She is an active member of the Pediatric Nutrition Practice Group (PNPG) and the American Dietetic Association.

 

Heather Paves, MS, RD, CD: 

Heather has worked at Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center for eight years in the department of Clinical Nutrition.  Heather has been an active member of the Children’s Obesity Action Team (COAT) since it began seven years ago.  As a member of COAT, she has helped plan and carry out various projects including focus groups that were held with health care providers, parents, and teens about the topics of healthy lifestyles, eating habits, and physical activity; Pediatric Weight Management Workshops for Providers; Strong Kids / Strong Teens Program with YMCA of Greater Seattle, and presentations in the community about overweight in children and adolescents.  Heather completed her dietetic internship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, a nutrition traineeship at the Center of Human Development and Disability (CHDD) at the University of Washington, and her Master’s of Science at the University of Washington.  Heather is an active member of the Pediatric Nutrition Practice Group (PNPG), Nutrition Network of Washington State, and American Dietetic Association (ADA).

 

Alicia Dixon-Doctor RD, CD:

Alicia works as a dietitian for Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center, specializing in Adolescent Wellness.  Bio is currently unavailable.

 

Program Description

Didactic presentation on management of pediatric overweight, specifically: current statistics, recent guidelines on assessment and treatment, counseling techniques, and community programs such as Strong Kids Strong Teens.  An interactive discussion will be held reviewing case studies and methods of approaching management of this population.

Southbound
Exit I-5 South at NE 45th St. (Exit #169). Turn left (east) at the stoplight onto NE 45th Street. Go 1.5 miles, passing the University of Washington. At the bottom of the hill, turn left at the stoplight and continue on NE 45th Street
. NE 45th Street will bear left, becoming Sand Point Way NE. Turn right at the stoplight onto Children’s campus.  Follow signs to the Whale Visitor Parking Garage. The Sound Café Dining Room is located on the 5th Floor of the “Whale” zone of the hospital.

 

Northbound
