Come join the director of the Black Farmers Collective, Ray Williams, to learn about the current and future direction of their work. Their mission is to build a Black-led food system by developing a cooperative network of food system actors, acquiring and stewarding land, facilitating food system education, and creating space for Black liberation in healing and joy. This event will also highlight black contributions to agriculture. Learn how RDs in the greater Seattle area can connect to and support this work!

Speaker Bio: Ray Williams worked in environmental conservation before becoming a teacher with Seattle Public Schools and earning his MEd from the University of Washington. His educational career includes teaching in Atlanta, GA and internationally in Curacao, Netherlands Antilles, serving as a Race and Equity Specialist for Seattle Public Schools and as an adjunct science teacher at the Art Institute of Seattle.

Ray has supported many Black community building organizations. As a biology and nutrition teacher he is keenly aware of the connection between lifestyle, food and health. He believes growing a little of your own food is one of the best things you can do for your health and wellbeing. He is a founding member of the Black Farmers Collective, an organization dedicated to supporting efforts to get more people growing: in their backyards or as part of our growing local food system.
