Leika Suzumura, RD, MPH, will share her story of building community-based nutrition programs through a cultural lens. She will take us through her journey from an aspiring nutrition educator to policy advocacy and participatory program development. As a dancer, musician, and Capoeirista, Leika has woven her experience through cultural arts as an entry point for health and empowerment for community members looking to cultivate holistic well-being.

Speaker Bio: Leika Suzumura is a community “Nourishian” specializing in nutrition education and community-driven evaluation. She earned her BS in Nutrition from Bastyr University in 2006 and completed her Master of Public Health at the University of Washington in 2020. She has been working in South Seattle for 15 years. Her work includes providing experiential opportunities for people to learn and share food traditions that support health, connect people to their communities, and honor the land.
